I have to wonder how long this ancient, now dead tree has been looking up at the Milky Way from the edge of Crater Lake

Milky Way over Crater Lake
This is one of the first successful Milky Way pics I ever took. I lucked into a good location (there are no bad ones at Crater Lake), and used everything I had learned thus far to capture the entire MW.

Gnarled Pine with Stars
On my third night at Crater Lake, the stars came out. The foreground is light painted with a flashlight, and you can see Wizard Island in the lower part of the frame.

Dark Was the Night
I love how the trees form a silhouette landscape in this shot. I was walking between two locations I wanted to shoot, when I took a look up in this small grove of trees just away from the crater's edge.

Gnarled Tree
As the Milky Way was rapidly moving West, I caught its reflection in Crater Lake below. This tall picture is a pano, made up from several individual images.
